Kate Alice Smith is a young photographer living and working in London. Always playful, her work captivates in a way that such simple imagery usually would not. I guess that’s the influence of her father who’s has always worked as a professional photographer.

“These photographs were taken in America; i couldn’t help but think that a lot of the stuff there looked like cartoons. Maybe it was the jetlag.

Although inanimate, some of the subjects had a lot of personality and, to me, they’re more portraits than they are still lifes.

If you consider my other images, my photographs of people are always a lot less intimate and even as I kid I remember taking pictures out of windows and of inane things rather than the people I was surrounded by. I guess i’ve always been more concerned by my environment than those who occupy it.”Kate Alice Smith
